Aalborg University (AAU) in Denmark is a young, internationally oriented research university with a special mission within problem-based learning, interdisciplinarity, and innovation. AAU was founded in 1974 and has departments in Aalborg, Esbjerg, and Copenhagen and is divided into five faculties, under which all research and educational activities take place: The Faculty of Humanities, The Faculty of Social Sciences, The Faculty of Engineering and Science, The Faculty of Medicine, and the Faculty of IT and Design. More than 20.000 students are enrolled at AAU of whom approximately 20% are international students hailing from different countries around the world. The university employs approximately 2000 faculty and 800 administrative/technical staff. At Times Higher Education Aalborg University is ranked as no. 201-250 (~207) in the overall World University Ranking, and no. 18 in the Top 100 under the age of 50. In the "THE Impact Ranking" Aalborg University is ranked no. 23, and is ranked as the world's best university in SDG 4: Quality Education.
The Cyber Security Network at AAU is a research group within the departments of Electronic Systems and Computer Science, focusing on cybersecurity from a network perspective. The core focus areas are network traffic analysis, botnet detection, DNS traffic analysis, detection of malicious domains, collaborative intrusion detection, honeypots, and applied machine learning. The group has successfully developed a number of tools that have been presented in top cyber-security conferences (e.g. Black Hat). The group is involved in a variety of different projects, including European projects, Danish funded projects, Industrial Ph.D. projects and projects funded through private foundations.
