The Technical University of Denmark (DTU), founded in 1829 on the initiative of the world-renowned scientist Hans Christian Ørsted, is one of the largest universities devoted to technical subjects in Scandinavia, with over 900 research staff and 6000 students. DTU is a modern technological university operating at a high international level in a wide array of activities in fields such as biotechnology, ICT, and nanotechnology. Involved in EC projects for more than 25 years, including more than 200 funded from the FP7 and ongoing Horizon2020 programmes, DTU has extensive experience of acting as both coordinator and beneficiary. It excels at multidisciplinary and cross-border research and benefits from excellent professional and administrative support.
The Cyber Security Section, at the Department of Applied Mathematics and Computer science (DTU Compute) was created in January 2016, to address the increasing need for research and education in cybersecurity. The section conducts research and teaches in most aspects of computer and information security, from post quantum cryptology to location-based security mechanisms for cyber-physical systems. The section currently consists of 5 full-time faculty, 2 Postdocs, and 12 postgraduate students, and its members are active in a number of externally funded research projects, including the EU-funded project PQCRYPTO (post-quantum cryptology) and the nationally funded projects Managed Video as a Service (security in video surveillance systems), Trusted Cryptography (symmetric cryptography for new applications), Identity Mapping Services (privacy enhanced identity and access management) and BeKey Proximity (proximity unlocking services for remote-controlled door locks). DTU Compute’s activities range from the integration of formal modeling techniques for software systems development, and their application to critical systems, through to security applications such as the design and implementation of trustworthy systems.
